Any recommendations for a replacement coil?

When I first try to start my engine after 35 years it seems like a sensible idea to have eliminated any potential failures up front and replaced the coil first.  The question is…with what?

I’ve seen a couple of cars with backup coils fitted, so I’m sure it won’t be wasted money should mine actually work.

Whatever brand of coil you buy it needs to be one for an un-ballasted ignition supply i.e. it will operated at full 12 volts. Ballasted coils are made to work at either 9 or 7 v. They only operate at 12 v whilst starting
