    This is probably not the best place to post this, but I’m going to be wanting quite a lot of various nuts and bolts etc in the coming months so was wondering who people use for such things.

    Right now, just for starters, I’d like to replace my rounded off wheel nuts and damaged brake drum retaining screws – to make my life easier when taking them on and off. Any suggestions? I’m not even that familiar with AF / UNF / UNC sizes which doesn’t help.

    Just to add to this, I’m also going to want to overhaul the brakes completely… So will want everything required for that too! Pipes were new 20 years ago but cylinders will presumably need doing, plus any seals etc.

    To start with I suggest you buy a thread gauge, vernier gauge (digital is easier) and thread identification tables (which you can download free online).

    Once you have these you then need to learn how to use them to identify what type of threaded fixing you need and the terminology for them. Then it’s pretty straightforward to ask for the specific part online or from specialist suppliers like Namrick.

    Past Parts can repair brake cylinders but you can also get new ones. I have just bought a pair of front cylinders for £70 inc p&p. online. I just googled Allard P1 front brake cylinders.

    Note that your P1 will most likely have the Lockheed phase 2 brakes. Earlier cars had phase 1s which are not as efficient.

    My dad recommended getting them lined with stainless so they’d last longer, is that something anyone else has experience with?  He also recommended Past Parts so it’s good to hear a second recommendation.

    I was thinking a “Useful Technical Links / Suppliers” page would be super useful on here.  There’s one on the Allard Register site but they’re mainly US based or broken links.

    That is what Past Parts do.

    I have asked David Mosely our Honsec, Treasurer, Membership Secretary and Website manager if we might be able to set up an indexed Technical section. As you can see from the list of his duties, he is very much overloaded at present.

    An offer of help with any of this might be appreciated???

    Ben.  I think the plan is to add a list of members recommended suppliers under the overall banner of suppliers in the members area pull down. I will check this at this weeks committee Zoom meeting

    That sounds perfect.

    I would love to help out with admin tasks such as this on the site.  I have a fair bit of experience in building / managing websites (though for the past 10 years it’s more been project managing the build of complex corporate sites / ecommerce sites).

    I can’t really help much with hosting type things, but site design, page creation, wordpress theme tweaking are all well within my capabilities.

    Charles Gough had his Girling shocks overhauled by Stevsons and was not impressed.
    I suggest Recon and Return in Leicester. Pecky has the number. Or Vintage Shock Absorbers in Sanderstead, Surrey.
